Review: Cyrus & Distance – Titan / Rude [CHST025]

There’s been a slightly longer wait for Chestplate’s first release of 2013, especially considering its truly incredible output in 2012 (Distance really wasn’t bullshitting when he promised a release every month) but it’s been nearly two months since Razor Rekta’s “Bang Your Door” came out. However, this “dry spell” would only be an issue if it wasn’t for what is to be CHST025.

To call “Titan” anticipated would be an understatement. This is Distance and Cyrus’s Frankenstein. Gigantic synths stomp without leash, evidence of Distance’s metal background is clearly abundant throughout as the synths sound more like power chords from a guitar and Cyrus’s minimal yet effective drums are crisp and clear as you would expect from him.

“Rude” is more Cyrus’s domain, interspersed by growls immediately associated with Distance. It’s definitely Titan’s deputy, something you would start a set or to wind it down whereas Titan is to be used in preparation for dancefloor destruction.

CHST025 is released February 11th and available from Bleep and Juno Download.
