Review: ARtroniks – Torodial / Shifted [DUPLOC012]

DUPLOC is well known in the dubstep community, especially for their YouTube channel where music is visualised by its trademark balaclava head logo. As of April last year, the promotional platform expanded to digital label releasing tunes from Lost, Enigma Dubz and Arkwright to name a few. Release #12 however marks a special moment for the publishing platform as DUPLOC makes the step to go vinyl with a limited 300 pressing from fellow Belgian ARtroniks. DUPLOC012 is a release to be reckoned with, and one that emphasises both sides of the dubstep sound spectrum. ARtroniks is already a familiar name in the Duploc catalogue having released on DUPLOC005 and DUPLOC009.

“Torodial” starts with minimalistic thumping bass and progresses with enough space allowing the elements to breathe and the timely percussion to set the atmosphere on any sound system. “Shifted” on the flip is a heavier affair. Although still down low, this one is more upfront. A minute and a half in, the bouncing bassline takes over and takes you on a ride like a hydraulic car.

DUPLOC012 will be released April 1st and is available from Unearthed Sounds, Redeye, White Peach and the Duploc Bandcamp Store.
