After more than two years of baited-breath silence the Brighton label, Well Rounded Dubs, is back with a 2-track vinyl-only EP by Misfit and Oxóssi dropping on 4th February 2022. Following his label’s legacy of pressing artfully paired tracks from two different artists on the A and B-side, head honcho Donga lets Oxóssi & Misfit complement each other as Foamplate & Sibla, Jackson & Ether, and Headland & Sepia have in previous years.
Claiming an A-side for his debut vinyl release with ‘Katana’, Brighton’s own radio presenter, underground promoter and Outlook Boat Party destroyer, Misfit, buries the soundsystem in a moody sandstorm of elephant-treading bass. Frantically ticking musical achievements off his bucket list, Misfit’s debut vinyl pressing on Well Rounded Dubs follows his first official release which landed on Low End Music last year, alongside his debut EP, ‘Bone Eater’, on Illicit.
The B-side gets ‘Frantic’, as the big boss Oxóssi loads the Well Rounded tommy gun full of infectious, grungey bass plucks wielded by long, fedora-topped shadows that slip around red-brick corners and up Escher-spiralled fire escapes. Both tracks urge full immersion into lucid universes that are geographically distant from each other, yet intrinsically linked through Donga’s Soundcloud inscription for this release, “hard & mournful, edgy and restless”.
